Description of main activities and responsibilities:

Renewable Energy Engineers design renewable energy systems. Their responsibilities relate to the development, implementation and management of projects using technologies such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass. Their fields of work also cover research and development with the aim of innovating and improving existing technologies to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

General Framework

National and international energy policies: Understanding policies and regulations that affect the renewable energy industry in different countries;

Environmental and social impacts of renewable energy: Understanding environmental and social impacts related to the development and implementation of renewable energy technologies, such as impacts on landscape, biodiversity and local communities;

Energy transition and decarbonisation frameworks: Understanding energy transition models and strategies needed to shift from fossil fuel-based energy sources to renewable sources in line with global decarbonisation goals.

Technical And Specific Framework

  • Smart grids and energy storage

    Knowledge of smart grids and energy storage technologies to optimise distribution and efficiency;

  • Renewable technologies:

    Expertise in specific renewable energy technologies, such as solar photovoltaic systems, wind turbines and solar thermal panels;

  • Technical analysis and simulation tools:

    Ability to use simulation software for the design and analysis of energy systems, such as PV*SOL, WindPRO and RETScreen.

Attitude Skills

Ability to lead teams and manage projects, motivating staff and coordinating activities to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met;

Ability to communicate complex technical information to different stakeholders, including colleagues, customers and policy makers;

Ability to solve technical and operational problems innovatively, adapting quickly to emerging technologies and changes in the regulatory landscape;

Skills in working effectively in a multicultural context, respecting different perspectives and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
