Description of main activities and responsibilities:

Sustainability Experts guide and implement sustainability strategies in various fields of work. Their main task is to ensure that organisations comply with local and EU environmental laws, including those on reducing carbon footprints and improving energy efficiency. They work with internal teams to integrate sustainable practices into daily operations, minimising environmental impacts and promoting positive change.

General Framework

Environmental economics
Basic knowledge of environmental economics, including concepts such as “natural capital”, “ecosystem services”. Good understanding of how environmental values can be integrated into economic decisions;
Environmental risk management
Understanding of risk management related to climate change, natural disasters and pollution. Understand how to identify, assess and mitigate environmental risks associated with business operation;
Environmental regulations
Understanding of both local and European environmental regulations, essential for navigating and implementing compliant practices;
Environmental ethics
Understanding of ethical issues related to sustainability, such as intergenerational justice, animal rights, and equity in the use of resources.

Technical And Specific Framework

Life cycle analysis (LCA):

In-depth knowledge of LCA techniques to assess the environmental impact of products or services throughout their life cycle, from production to final placement;

Sustainability certifications and reporting

In-depth knowledge of different sustainability certifications and international standards, such as LEED, BREEAM, or ISO 14001;

Sustainability in supply chain management

Ability to analyse and optimise the supply chain for sustainability, considering factors such as the origin of materials, labour practices and the environmental impact of transport.

Attitude Skills



Leadership

Skills in leading teams, coordinating workflows and inspiring collaboration between different departments to achieve sustainability goals;



Communication

Ability to communicate effectively and clearly the objectives and benefits of sustainable practices to internal and external stakeholders, including non-experts



Adaptability

Ability to quickly adapt to new developments in the field of sustainability and modify strategies accordingly



Problem-solving

Competence in solving complex problems and finding innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.
